Underground Talent of the Week: Fetty Wap

This weeks underground artist literally came out of nowhere in months time with his unique style of catchy hooks and melodic ad-libs. New Jerseys' Fetty Wap rised to the scene of popular hip hop music with his hit single "Trap Queen"; and since then the Patterson project raised rapper has dished out new singles and features left and right earning collaborations with huge names such as Gucci Mane, 50 Cent and Drake.

Fetty has already made a big name for himself setting some ground-breaking marks already in the industry. He has landed a spot in XXL Magazines' "2015 Freshman Class"; not only that but only 2 months ago Wap was awarded the MC100 Award of 2015 by Music Choice, for the most played music video ("Trap Queen") and he landed himself on the Billboard Top 100 chart occupying 3 of the top 20 spots!

Needless to say this young hip-hop artist has easily left his print in the rap game along with legend Eminem, and he also became the first male rapper in four years to have concurrent singles reaching the top 10 of the same chart since Lil Wayne did so in 2011. Fetty Wap developed Glaucoma as a young child and recently doctors could not save the rappers left eye; but don't let the hardcore image of Fetty fool you into thinking he's a gimmick artist, he's as legit as it gets.

But who am I to tell you; as always I shall let you determine this for yourself. He's dropped the single "My Way" feat. Drake but as of now his new radio hit "679" feat. Rem Boyz is what has everyone jumping. Go ahead and have a listen.

Rick Ross Branches Off Into Film Making

Miami rapper Rick Ross is known for topping the charts with hit songs and features all made within his label Maybach Music. Now the music heavy hitter has decided to take his talents to a more visual setting by starting the film production company "Maybach Films".

Ross says this development of his new company will be a game changer in both music and film by giving the music he makes a visual it creates more power behind the art. Rozay currently mentioned to Hip Hop DX Magazine the he just finished writing his first film and is planning on filming sometime before the year is up.

Heres just a little something the head man of MMG is looking forward to doing.

Underground Talent of the Week: Azealia Banks

I normally try to find an edge or something different  about artists and rappers I showcase as the Talent of the week; and once again I've succeeded. I bring to you an artist raised in Harlem, New York, Azealia Banks. Starting off first in the musical theater field Miss Banks soon left to fully pursue music at the age of 17 (oh and shes only 22 by the way).

I don't showcase Azaelia today because she's a woman in a predominately male driven business, nor do I show her because of her British accent despite living in NY. I give Miss Banks props simply for her I don't care attitude, remarks and lyrics. She is able to pull off the rude b**** persona while still being looked at with respect which is hard to do in today's world of music.

One of the first songs I heard from Harlem rapper was her Single "212" which showed that rap can go beyond that hardcore, gritty-beat, thugged-out image. I'm pretty sure you have a talent on you hands if guys who sag their pants can blast your pop-themed song with no regret. Or if they can make a hit song referring to "Liquorice".

Drake Set to Host 2014's Espys

Only twice I can recall a performer/artist has blessed the athletic stage of the Espys as a host; those two being Jamie Foxx and Justin Timberlake. But ESPN believes third times the charm as they've decided to declare rap sensation Drake the official host for the event this year.

If people know drake behind the music they'd know that he:
  • is a sports fanatic
  • is a global ambassador for Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment
  • was an actor before the music (so hosting maybe come a little easier to him than other artists)
All in all Drake is just as excited as the ESPN world was about the decision. He was quoted as saying "This is an incredible opportunity for me to combine two of my biggest passions—sports and performing,”.
The big event airs July 16 at 9p.m. from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles

Andre 3000: The One and Only Choice for Up and Coming Jimi Hendrix Film

Although the looks are practically similar Andre 3000 was pictured to play the role of Jimi Hendrix way before the make up and movie idea was even put into place. Thanks to the persistence of Danny Bramson, the producer of the movie, we get to see the amazing rap/actor play the role of the legendary Hendrix. Bramson said "We bet the house on our one and only choice, Andre Benjamin". Producer Bramson and Andre ironically spoken years before regerding the praise Bramson gave Andre on his musical talents and Atlanta-southern soul.

The Biopic film "Jimi: A;; By My Side" is already put into motion with Bramson's #1 pick. So supportive of the choice he made Danny even went as far as to hire a guitar teacher to teach the Outkast member how to play with his left hand (Seeing as Jimi was left handed). Mr. 3000 sat in a small studio for six hours a day, putting in dedication to learn how to play left-handed. His guitarmanship had to carry the idea of grace and fluidity in front of the camera. the whole reason behind this is because producer Bramson didn't want to have the camera cropped on his face and not the guitar. Benjamin even continued to work on his new found skills in a rehearsal room during production of the movie.

The movie, "Jimi: All By My Side" is set to play at 9 p.m. March 12 at the Paramount Theater, as per Billboard; but as of now the first trailer for the movie was released March 5. Have a look.

Rapper Lil Boosie Says He Wrote 1,118 Songs While Serving His Time in Prison

For those of you who haven't seen or heard the news all around the music industry and social media, one of the big trending topics this past week was the release of Louisiana rapper Lil Boosie. The native rapper was sentenced to prison in 2009 for drug related charges, and was finally released from Louisiana State Penitentiary March 5. Soon after his release his record label, Trill Entertainment Records, scheduled a "Boosie Speaks" conference to update his fans and the media on his current status. Those who were involved in the conference were rappers such as Bun B, Jeezy and Webbie

Soon after getting all the details of his case out of the way Boosie went straight to what the fans were there for; his music. He commented that while incarcerated he wrote over 1,000 songs and even his own movie titled "Boosie The Movie". Trill Ent.'s rapper seems widely confident is his new music even saying that he has a song for pop star Justin Beiber. When asked about his confidence with his congs Boosie replied, "I feel like what I been hearing these last three, four days on the radio and stuff is different from my music. Like I said, it’s different from my music. And different brings greatness. So, I just feel I stand alone in the music industry to tell you the truth".

As for Boosie's court situation he has a routine court hearing scheduled for Thursday March 15; but with the 1,000+ songs in the rappers notepad the main focus is being drawn away from court hearings and politics, and being focused on when can we hear these new singles??
